Love is in the air...

[originally written in January 2015]

All you need is love.
Love is in the air.
Can you feel the love tonight?
Love will keep us together.
Love is a many splendored thing.

It’s a love fest.
But what does it mean?
Maybe one of the most overused, misused, confusing and powerful words in our language.

In the Bible – there’s plenty of talk about love, too.

One reason why we English-speakers “confuse ourselves” is that we’ve translated the different kinds of Bible love into one English word.

And the Bible doesn’t just talk about it.
It’s an action verb!
It’s the most important thing our God does for us and that we are supposed to do.
Love.

For God so loved the world… (John 3:16)
Love your enemies! (Matthew 5:43-47)
But the greatest of these is love… (1 Corinthians 13:8-13)

This morning I received clarity on God’s love and my love in response from 1 John 4:7-21.
-          Where it starts (God) “God is love.” “…love comes from God.” “He loved us first.”
-          Where I fit in (receiver and relayer) – “First we were loved, now we love.”
-          What it does for us (frees us) “There is no room in love for fear”
-          Where it ends (it doesn’t) “…love has the run of the house, becomes at home and mature in us…”

Loving Lord,
Thank you for loving me (the formerly unlovable) first.
Help me to love like you do.
Purely.
Unconditionally.
24/7.
Love,
Me (Amen)
