[summarized from Pastor Patterson's devotion on 15 Aug 2016]
Who are you fighting with?
We had a church leaders meeting last Monday and Pastor opened with a devotion reminding us of our real battle.
The battle is not with disorganization or budgets or even of things that we can see.
The battle is not with "Flesh and blood" as Ephesians 6:10-13 puts it.
It's against our sinful selves.
And especially it's against the father of lies - the devil!
(hence my allusion to the Thompson Twins song - Lies...)
Read all about it in John 8:44.
What lies does the devil try to tell us (and how does God remind us of the truth)?
1) God is depriving you of good things. (Genesis 3:1-5)
2) Try it - what could it hurt? You wouldn't hurt anyone but yourself. How bad could that be? (Genesis 3:4-5)
3) It's not your fault. (Genesis 3:12)
4) How could God possibly love YOU? You are a filthy, rotten, no good... (Zechariah 3:1-10)
5) Wow - how could God possibly forgive THAT? (1 John 1:8-9)
6) You should fear death because of what awaits you. (Hebrews 2:14-15)
7) You are going to die and that is the worst possible thing ever. (Psalm 22:29-31)
So turn those lies around, see them for what they are and dive into the truth (in God's Word). If you didn't click on those passage links above because you don't have time - set aside 15-20 minutes later today (schedule it NOW!) and do it.
There's truth treasure waiting for you!
=====================
Father God,
I love to listen to You.
What you have to say to me is full of life and hope.
So why do the devil's whispers sound SO enticing?
He is SO good at it and knows just how to trip me up.
Thank you for your Word which trumps the devil's lies EVERY TIME.
Amen and Amen!
